At School of Judo, you join a community of learners receiving quality Judo coaching from experienced and friendly instructors.
Judo is a Japanese martial art that gives you the opportunity to learn a wide variety of throwing and submission techniques for self-defence and personal development.
Our coaches come from a diverse range of backgrounds, and between them have more than 30 years of Judo practice.
We run 6 sessions per week, at 2 locations; Farrer Park and Clarke Quay

Our Coaches
Head Coach
Azfar Ali
Azfar Ali has a wealth of experience in Judo; At the international stage, he managed the Singapore Judo National Team at SEA Games 2017, 2019 and 2021 and played a key role in identifying and developing talent for the national senior and youth teams.
Azfar has experience teaching Judo in a multi-disciplinary setting, having previously taught Judo at BJJ, MMA and Krav Maga gyms. A youth developer, Azfar taught Judo at Saint Joseph’s Institution, Assumption English School and Catholic Junior College.
Azfar’s coaching methodology has helped hundreds of beginners and advanced practitioners acquire solid fundamental and technical judo skills for self-defence and sport.
Coach
Dr Mike Hou
Mike’s Judo journey is unique and serves as an inspiration to adult learners – he started Judo while serving as a Major in the Navy, and progressed fast to earn his black belt within 4 years.
Mike believes in playing intelligent Judo and is a jovial coach whose understanding of Judo is augmented by his expertise in psychology (Mike holds a PhD in Psychology from NUS).
Coach Jamie Jin
Coach Jamie Jin is one of Singapore’s youngest and most dynamic coaches.
Coach Jamie holds the rank of 1st Dan from the Korea Judo Federation and has been practising Judo for well over 15 years.
An active competitor and astute Judoka, Coach Jamie has a meticulous style of teaching that helps you learn the finer points of Judo techniques. Combined with his ability to analyse Judo movements, Coach Jamie will give you the best start to learning Judo fundamentals and basics.
Coach Ace Ang
Coach Ace has extensive experience in competitive Judo and is an all-rounded Judoka with sound technical skills.
He became one of Singapore’s youngest Judokas to represent Singapore in the Southeast Asian Games when he was selected to compete in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in 2017, at the age of 18.
Coach Ace possesses a wealth of experience in Judo training methods as he has undergone 2 training camps in Japan, where he has learnt various training approaches from high-level athletes and coaches.
Coach Ace’s understanding of. training methods makes his classes engaging and insightful – new and experienced grapplers from all levels will benefit from his training methodology and instruction.
Coach Joelle Ho
Coach Joelle Ho is a an all-rounded Judoka – not only is she a knowledgeable Judo coach, she is also a seasoned Judo competitor who has medalled in international competitions in both Judo and Kurash.
Coach Joelle holds the rank of 2nd Dan, awarded by the Kodokan Judo Institute and is proficient in teaching adults and children Judo techniques in a fun and accessible way.
Fun and friendly by nature, Coach Joelle is well liked by students of SOJ, especially the kids in SOJ’s kids class.

Vincent Viceconte
Vincent has been practising Judo for more than 20 years, having started Judo in a sports school in France.
Vincent is a skilled Judo fighter and has been competing and achieving top 3 finishes in local Judo competitions over the many years he has been in Singapore.
As a coach, Vincent brings to students a wealth of technical Judo knowledge and is passionate about sharing the French style of Judo.
